Call for Submissions: Ode to Studios - North | Deadline September 6, 2020
ode to studios.
PITCH YOUR STORY BY SEPTEMBER 06, 2020
We are seeking contributors for CreatedHere Magazine Issue 14: Ode to Studios, launching December 2020.
Nowhere in New Brunswick is the winter more wintery than the North. We believe northern artists must be made of tougher stuff, or maybe they are bonded to the surreal and secluded beauty of their land. There is also a wonderful colliding of cultures at play in these communities, ripe with creative possibility. This area of our province yields exceptional but underrepresented talent.
Ode to Studios is our annual winter theme. This year we focus in on artist studios in North NB (that means preference will be given to artists in Edmundston, Campbellton, Bathurst and all surrounding areas). We also welcome your stories of social isolation in-studio and connecting through creative practice during the pandemic.
We are seeking:
photographic tours of cozy artist studios and (COVID-mindful) gatherings of artists
stories of the impact of a studio practice on our ability to endure social isolation
artwork and photography that explores winter or the embrace of a seasonal lifestyle
musings and poetry about the winter landscape and the artist’s place within it
This issue is less about long-form articles and more about largescale, calming imagery with short-form, poetic writing and artist quotes. Think coffee table book. For ideas, get inspired by last year’s version here.
We are open to any and all ideas that creatively fit this theme. You do not need to be an experienced writer, and you can choose to suggest a story for our staff writers. Anyone may submit – all mediums, genders, cultures, identities. Please note that artists will be featured a maximum of once per year unless they are included as part of a group exhibition or similar.
Your initial pitch should be short and sweet. Please read the submission instructions on our website to ensure you send everything we need to consider your work.
Through the generous support of the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, we are offering increased payment this year for writers and artists ($100-$250 depending on contribution size).
