Call for Submissions: Come From Away | Deadline November 29, 2020
come from away
PITCH YOUR STORY BY NOVEMBER 29, 2020
We are seeking contributors for CreatedHere Magazine Issue 15: come from away, launching March 2021.
The history of art and craft in New Brunswick is often a story of immigration. From the Deichmanns to the Oudemans, many of our influential changemakers came from away.
That tradition continues to this day. Perhaps drawn by our cooperative community, our wild spaces or our inexpensive studio and study options, immigrating artists from near and far choose to settle here. Not only do they settle, but they stir up exciting activity in the communities fortunate enough to welcome them.
Just like newcomers bring diverse perspectives to our province, New Brunswick artists travel far and wide, bearing the torch of our region and bringing back new insights.
We are seeking:
stories of artists who have come from away and artistic projects that reflect country or culture of origin
New Brunswick through the eyes of newcomer artists
international influences and influential characters in our history
NB artists presenting or creating work beyond our borders, and lessons learned abroad
We are open to any and all ideas that creatively fit this theme. You do not need to be an experienced writer and you can choose to suggest a story for our staff writers. Anyone may submit – all mediums, genders, cultures, identities. Please note that artists will be featured a maximum of once per year unless they are included as part of a group exhibition or similar.
Your initial pitch should be short and sweet. Please read the submission instructions on our website to ensure you send everything we need to consider your work.
Through the generous support of the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, we are offering increased payment this year for writers and artists ($100-$250 depending on contribution size).
