#3 of #100NBartists - Ceramics artist Maja Padrov
Maja Padrov is a ceramics artist whose her work is incredibly unique, consisting of fantastical shapes that are more architectural than traditional ceramics and seem to be made of metal and concrete.
"I often change the method of making, proportions and appearance of elements, so the function is not always obvious. I like to arrange elements in a playful, illogical manner; their placement and interplay affect both function and the aesthetic." (Maja's website)
She immigrated to Canada from Serbia in 1997 and graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2001, where she now teaches part-time. Maja's work has taken her around the world, most recently to the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, SOFA Chicago and the Shanghai Modern Pot Biennale. This lady has talent!
Maja was recently featured in Issue #4 of CreatedHere magazine in a fabulous article written by metalsmith Erica Stanley.
You can find her work at Buckland Merrifield Gallery.
